Cover Reveal: Dirty Souls by Karina Halle

I am so excited for this!! I cannot wait to find out what happens next with the McQueens and Bernals! dirty-souls-3d-book

From New York Times bestselling author Karina Halle comes DIRTY SOULS the much-anticipated, nail-biting conclusion to Black Hearts…

Violet McQueen has always been a sensitive soul. Troubled and misunderstood, she never realized her place in the world, nor her true potential…until she met Vicente Bernal.

From birth, Vicente Bernal has always known his place in the world – he’s been groomed to be a ruthless king. Yet for a man whose soul has become morally bankrupt, it’s only through Violet he’s realizing the worth of someone’s heart.

But at what cost?

With a deadly game set in motion taking them from the stark deserts of California to the steamy jungles of Mexico, Violet and Vicente’s forbidden relationship will be put to the test. Boundaries will be pushed, lines will be crossed and souls will get very, very dirty.

Because how do you choose between blood and love when both might get you killed?

Dirty Souls will be out March 17!!

Review: Black Hearts by Karina Halle

History and her bad habit of repeating herself.

Black Hearts is book one of a duet spinoff of Karina Halle‘s must-read The Artists Trilogy series. It’s a standalone novel, so although you don’t have to read the previous books to enjoy it, I highly recommend you check those out if you haven’t!

Black Hearts picks up about twenty years after the end of the original series. Violet McQueen is photography student, trying to find her place out from under her parents’ shadow. Her mom, Ellie, a well-respected photographer and her dad, Camden, a tattoo artist, have always been more on the eccentric side, but life as she’s known it has been quite average. That is until she finds a letter that begins to unravel secrets from their past.

Vicente is very much his father’s son, though he would rather find his own way to live his life. When presented with the chance to go to America on his own, he jumps at the opportunity to not only discover more about his father from the woman who broke his heart but at his first real chance at freedom.

When these two meet, they are immediately drawn to one another, and that pull is magnetic. They begin the search for what really happened with their parents two decades prior…

I love the continuation of the McQueen and Bernal saga. This book is sexy, fun and is set in one of my favorite cities ever, San Francisco. I am so glad book two will be out next month! I need to know what happens next!

Black Hearts can be read as a standalone, and the followup novel Dirty Souls comes out March 17!

Cover Reveal: Black Hearts by Karina Halle

Karina Halle’s The Artists Trilogy is one of my favorite series, next to her Experiment in Terror books (Dex!!)

So of course I am super excited for her newest spinoff, Black Hearts. How swoonworthy is this cover??

For Vicente Bernal, truth is all he’s known. The son of an infamous drug lord, Vicente was born to help run the family business, which means he’s been raised on a throne of sordid pasts and dirty laundry, violence and pride. But when Vicente stumbles across someone he’s not supposed to know about – a woman from his father’s checkered past – he sets out to California to find her behind his father’s back.

What Vicente doesn’t expect to find in San Francisco is Violet McQueen, the woman’s twenty-year old daughter. Beautiful and edgy with a vulnerability he can’t resist, Violet tempts Vicente from afar and though he promised himself he’d stay away from her, curiosity and lust are powerful forces. Besides, Vicente has always gotten everything he wants – why shouldn’t he have Violet too?

Soon his wants turn into an obsession, one that sweeps Violet into his games as they fall madly, deeply in love with each other, the type of first love that can drive a person mad.

But it’s a love with tragic consequences.

Both the truth – and the lies – not only threaten to tear them apart, but threaten their very lives.

Someone has to pay for the sins of the fathers.

And they’ll be paying the price with their souls.

NOTE: Black Hearts is book one of the Sins Duet, with the sequel, Dirty Souls, releasing in March 2017.

These books can be read as a standalone – though they are a spinoff of the Sins & Needles and Dirty Angels trilogies, Black Hearts & Dirty Souls are set 20 years in the future and follow new characters. You do NOT need to read TAT or DA to enjoy or understand this duet.

Newest Editions To My Library

I loved One Day by David Nicholls. I watched the movie starring Anne Hathaway, but it didn’t have the same charm as the book.

I found these two by the same author at Book Off today. I hope they won’t disappoint!

Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux Beginnings Cover Reveal!

The Lux series is one of my favorite YA Paranormal Romance books ever. I love me some Daemon Black! And coming June 3, 2014 will be the release of Lux Beginnings, the first two books in this series.

Lux Beginnings cover

Lux: Beginnings (Obsidian & Onyx) official Blurb:

There’s an alien next door. And with his looming height and eerie green eyes, he’s hot…until he opens his mouth. He’s infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, he lights me up with a big fat bulls-eye. Turns out he has a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal his abilities and the only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to him until my alien mojo fades. If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro alien connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems. I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

Review: Donners of the Dead by Karina Halle

Donners of the Dead
by Karina Halle
Published: February 24, 2014
formats available: Amazon Kindle, and other retailers TBA

I never thought the horrors could get any worse, but they were, day by day.

Holy crap. Karina Halle, you’ve done it again. You tore my heart out of my chest in Lying Season, continually scare the baloney out of me and yet I keep coming back for more. Donners of the Dead is everything I love in a Karina Halle book, set in the Sierra Nevada area 1851. With zombies.

Yes, this was just as awesome as I thought it would be.

Eve Smith, a half-Native eighteen year old, is commissioned by a small group of men to track one of their relatives who had disappeared around Donner Lake. Her best friend Avery and a neighbor girl come along to chaperone and help her. It’s a dangerous journey, though Eve looks forward to taking home some good money to her family. What she doesn’t expect are the horrors she and the rest of the search party come across as they make their way into the Sierra Nevadas. As tensions mount within the group, Eve finds an unexpected ally with rugged Texan Jake McGraw. Jake initially comes across as a bit of a smug, cigar-puffing cowboy, and definitely not one you want to cross. But with the dangers increasing as they get closer to Donner Lake, she realizes Jake may be one of the few she can trust.

Donners of the Dead hooked me from the start. It’s an excellent mix of horror, romance and action; well-paced with a strong  heroine that can hold her own and a swoon-worthy leading man.

“Love is a wolf, he said, the fire dancing in his eyes. “Perhaps that’s why they howl in the dark of night. Love drives them mad like it does to everyone. Fast or slow, whatever way it hits you, love will drive you mad.”

4.5/5 stars

Don’t forget to check the very end of the book for a sneak peek at Karina Halle’s Dust to Dust, the final installment of the Experiment in Terror series!
